Buying a booster box

What a booster box gives you

A booster box holds a fixed number of sealed packs from one set, usually 18, 24 or 36 depending on the game. Buying the box costs less per pack than buying packs one at a time, and the pull rates quoted by the manufacturer apply across the box rather than any single pack.

If you want to build a set or chase a specific hit, the box is the efficient way in. If you want one named card at a known condition, buy the graded card instead and skip the variance.

Hobby box, retail box and Elite Trainer Box

Hobby boxes go through card shops and distributors. They carry higher hit rates and often contain parallels or autographs that never appear in supermarket stock. Retail boxes cost less per pack and suit players and openers more than investors.

An Elite Trainer Box is Pokémon-specific. It pairs packs with sleeves, dice and dividers, so it works well as a gift or a starting point, but the pack count is lower than a full booster box.

How we check every sealed box

Boxes come from official UK distribution and direct import channels. Each one gets weighed and inspected for reseal marks, cut wrap and shifted seams before it goes on the site.

We photograph the box we ship. What you see in the listing is the item that leaves the unit, not a stock image.

Storing a sealed box

Keep boxes flat, out of sunlight and away from radiators. Heat softens the shrink wrap and clouds it, which knocks value off a sealed box years later.

Collectors holding long term usually add a fitted acrylic case. Our guide on storing cards covers the specifics.

FAQ

Booster boxes: common questions

How many packs are in a booster box?

It depends on the game. Pokémon English booster boxes hold 36 packs of 10 cards. One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh! displays hold 24 packs. Japanese Pokémon boxes usually hold 30 packs of 5. Every listing states the exact pack count.

Is a booster box cheaper than buying packs?

Per pack, yes. A sealed box almost always costs less per pack than buying the same number of loose packs, and you avoid the risk of packs that have been weighed or handled.

What is the difference between a hobby box and a retail box?

Hobby boxes are sold through card shops and distributors, with better hit rates and exclusive parallels. Retail boxes go to supermarkets and toy shops, cost less, and pull fewer chase cards.

Do you ship booster boxes outside the UK?

Yes. Tracked international shipping is available at checkout for most EU and Commonwealth destinations. Import duty is the buyer's responsibility.

Can I return a sealed booster box?

Yes, within 14 days, as long as the shrink wrap is intact. Once a box is opened it cannot be returned, because the contents can no longer be verified.
